Hello! I am sorry to be slacking on my blog...I have not forgotten about this, but have been super busy getting so many things ready for the next month or so of a busy time for our business! We are excited about all the shoots we have coming up! We will be posting many new shoots soon! I am even super excited about a mermaid photo shoot I have coming up! Can't wait and one of my favorite models will be there....STAY TUNNED!

Ok so, my website its actually *live* (in internet language that means that people besides myself can see it). I haven't made the general announcement on facebook or anything yet for a few reasons....1-I still am trying to finish a few things on it 2-it makes me a little nervous and 3-wow...its almost done and i kinda want to hold on to it a little more. I would love good or bad feedback anyone has on what they think...We have a TON of shoots coming up in which I am excited about so we will get some new faces up on there soon! I am just super excited to finally be on my way with my own business and be doing something I just love! Its a lot of work and takes patience but I am so thankful I am getting this opportunity to explore this passion!

Some pretty cool stuff is happening four our business so I thought I would share it here so you can pray for us that God directs and guides us to where he wants us to be!

First...our website is almost done! I am so excited. Its a lot of work to do and I love to take pictures and do all that kind of stuff, but when it coms to websites and being creative in a world that I know nothing about sure is hard! the viewing gallery option and I am most excited that we can load up pictures once they are ready for clients to log in and see them. I love that feature as I think our clients will too!! So...once the website goes live I will link it here!

Next...its amazing how God opens doors. I am not sure how much this door will be opened but we shall see. A friend of mine has a friend who owns a wedding center and she is in need of a new photography company. All I did was open my mouth about my business and share that I am excited for it to start and to be able to get to do something I just love! So its in the very early stages (meaning I need to meet with this company and make sure its a fit for both their company and ours!) but from what I understand the potential is we could book a lot of weddings and get that side of our business really up and running. I don't know the volume of weddings and all that, but it is kind of exciting to think of the possibilities!! I am just excited for our company to be considered for it! We shall see...I will update on that as well!

Finally, Next month we will be working our first event. Pretty darn exciting and we are very much looking forward to it! I am excited to get the opportunity to do this and even more be a part of it! We have been shooting people like crazy and we are so loving the practice and even more we are so happy to be blessed with awesome clients!

Once my website is live we are going to be offering a 4 month special for our clients for photo shoots! We came up with a very attractive package and we are excited to move forward!

My first official birth photo session!

Because of the private nature of birth, I only will show a few of the many pictures I snapped of baby Austin. It was a beautiful experience and since it was my first time I felt very overwhelmed and realized how much more I have to learn. There was quite a bit of people in the room and the angles were very ackward. :-( So I didn't do as good as I would have hoped and didn't get the shots I was aiming for. I try to go into each session with an idea of what I want to for each set of pictures. It really didn't go as planned so I learned that I need to have a backup plan in place for my shoots...just in case. I usually have a backup plan in place for my equipment but not for my shots....Ahhh, live and learn!

So...things are happening...I am excited...I am photographing an event...my first one and I am nervous but excited. I am also excited because I am going to be putting my business together officially. coming up with prices and a website. I have a dear friend who is showing me the ropes so to speak with website design and she is going to help me get it all set up! Its a lot of work, but I think it will be well worth it! A website is so important and one that I think will be a great resource for me.

I am also toying with the idea of changing the name....I have been thinking about it for a LONG time and I went to a website today and saw TONS of similar names. Of course I hoped my name was original but its not. So, since i have to come up a logo and all that, I will be deciding on this soon. There is so much to think about, yet this is so exciting.

I got the joy of watching a friends eldest child play polo today...MAN OH MAN...I miss the sport. I walked into the pool area and it had me at the SMELL! Just the smell of the pool brought back soooo many memories for me!

Ok, so one thing I have learned about photography is that having different pieces of equipment can really help capture the image you want...So, here is a list of things I am drooling over.

Lenses: Canon 70-200mm 2.8, 50 mm 1.4, ohhh and the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I got to play with both lenses last week and it was fun. I saw the beautiful pictures the new Canon 5d Mark II took and wow, the fact that it has 21.1 megapixels...wozua...that is cool! I need to book many more jobs if I ever want to afford those pretty things! :-) For now I will enjoy what I have because man this is sure fun!

I am sorry I have been a slacker when it comes to this blog. I am starting school up again starting this week, so I am excited and I am sure I will be posting more. I am taking some classes and looking forward to learning and exploring more my new passion. I have quite a few shoots coming up. I was invited to take some princess pictures next weekend at a princess photo shoot. Sooo looking forward to that since I am not the mommy of princesses! I got the pleasure of shooting twice in one weekend....it was fun and I learned that my backyard is a perfect backdrop for pictures. The first shoot I did was with the Neuenschwanders...you have seen them all over my blog...I found even more places in my backyard to shoot after I shot them when I shot the Storlies. Fun Fun. If only I could do this every weekend! It was awesome and I LOVED it!

So today is the day! I am excited and a bit nervous. I talked with a friend last night who put it to me straight and gave me what she felt the best settings would be on my camera. I plan to arrive early and set everything up and practice on my girlfriend who is going with me. She is always a willing subject so it should be fun. My sis tells me that its a mad house...I plan for structure and controlled chaos!

Ok...so, remember...these are soft edited...not up close and personal cause I really don't know how to do that. I am also LOVING the soft focus...it makes things a little blurry, but I love the look of it....here is more...now that I am knowing more about composition, lighting and all that I feel like I want to go back and try again cause I can see where I need to improve....that is good right?

One of my favorite things about this whole photography journey is that I will probably be forever learning something! Yesterday however, wow, I realized I had a small piece of the big puzzle! I went on a photo shoot with Pam again (sooo very greatful for that!) and at one point I stopped shooting because I just felt overwhelmed! The darn camera setttings...I am just feeling like I can't get it right. Sooo many different options and what to choose when? I did get a few good shots out of all the ones I took. Here is two. The editing is very underdone as I am still climbing that mountain as well. So bear with me! There will be more when I can get to it!

I am excited for this week as I have a big job on Wednesday night. I will be taking pictures for a private school's Halloween event. SUPER excited. I can't wait! I am nervous and scared really but I am going to put one foot in front of the other and make it super!

Ok...I had some fun practicing with my friends little models today. Cute kids and they each are so sweet in their own way. Seriously, I loved it and even though it was a quick shoot...the kids got tired after about 20 minutes in those hot costumes. I tried different styles of composition (learned all about that last night). These are quickie edits....I learned about the rule of threes, framing, etc...there is a lot and I found with this shoot the hard part was photographing all three kids together...I need to work on that...here are some of my faves...

This is probably it, I keep finding pics that I LOVE and play with them and though I can see myself getting picky already even with my limited knowledge, I think for being my first real shoot, I am happy with a lot of the shots I got. I am excited cause I have a pumpkin patch shoot coming up with three little munchkins in their halloween costumes and without. Should be fun! I am hoping to take my boys to a pumpkin patch too...I loved taking them last year. It was a blast!

Learning....

So tonight was a bummer at school...went and was soo excited to be there and they start talking about flim photogropahy and well, that is SO NOT ME...I am all about the digital baby! So I came home early, chatted with my hubby for a bit and now I am blogging it up! Ok, so yesterday....I felt much like a fish out of water, which I know it will be how it is and will be for a while to come, but I loved every second of it. SOOO MUCH FUN and it was a priceless gift to go out with Pam and Ashlee. They are great women and people I very much look up to. Especially for being so giving to let me tag along and when I had questions they stopped to help. Which still amazes me.

I really need to sit and study my camera setting and read! I am looking forward to doing that on vacation. I hope it will happen somewhat. I figure it will but we will see.

I got some experience with depth of field and learning my ISO settings on my camera. This place we went to was super fun and had TONS of different shot possibilities and it was just neat. Some of them were not as good as they could have been because I just need to remember to look at the pics as I am taking them and change the settings when I go from place to place. Seems simple, but really when you are in the moment snaping away, its really not! When you are new you really have to think about it. That is why I felt like a fish out of water.

I am going to be busy busy coming up soon. I have many people who have offered themselves to me as my test subjects and wow, super fun. Can't wait! After my vacation, I should have lots more people on here...which is more fun! Stay tuned peeps...this ride is just gettin goin and I am LOVING it already!

I have much to blog about this shoot today....I learned A LOT and most was just confirmation that I have SO VERY much to learn and have a long ways to go! Here are some samples...its late and i will blog more later about the experience....lets just say it was awesome and I am sooo thankful to Pam for allowing me to go and shoot...it was super fun and such affirmation that I want to pursue this! This couple was awesome and joked the whole time about all the "clicking" they were hearing. They were super great about all the poses and were super nice at giving me some shots. I tried to stay out of the way and shoot from different angles to try to not get in the way. But I think I did get some good ones....I do have more but I must get to bed....work comes early tomorrow!!

Jessie, you asked how my class is going....I love it...its seeming to be on the slower side and I feel that the only way to really learn this field is by going out and getting my hands dirty! So, this weekend I am going out with a friend who is already amazing at photography (I have always loved her eye--she has taken pictures for as long as I can remember). I am so excited and so looking forward to it! I just got my new camera....long story short, I changed my mind....Hey, I am a woman, I am ALLOWED to change my mind with things. I went from a Nikon to a Canon. So I have to re-learn all my settings and where everything is, but I think this weekend will be just the ticket! We are having a very small party for Natey...he is turning 2 and then I am going on a shoot, so I should get a lot of camera time, which makes me happy. THEN, we are going on vacation to Florida, Belize and more...so I will have lots of time to take some fabulous pics! Whooo Hoooo I couldn't be more excited!

So, I was talking to my friend Jess who has been doing this whole photography thing longer than me and we were looking at a bunch of pics online (she lives in WA and well we have had some late nights discussing photography) and discussing angles....So, I am going to start to work on mine. I want to work on not just eye level because I think the most stunning pics (especially from weddings) are from variations on the angles.

Since 9/11 has a big meaning to all Americans, I wanted to make sure I took a picture of our flag in our back yard. We are fortunate to live in America and this is a symbol of that freedom. I sat outside while my kids played and I just kept taking pictures... I am glad to be free and live in a nation that values that and will fight for it!

A new place for pics...

So, since I have a place for my family stuff, I want to have a place for my photos...I ordered a book that should help me with the editing portion of photography. It was recommended by my friend Jess who knows a lot of all that stuff and I hope it will help me understand the different features of editing.

So I am going to add some different pictures from time to time of some of my work. I am excited cause it looks like I will be getting my first family to photograph! They asked me and said they would love to be my first! Sooo cool. I need a little bit of time and I think once I go out with some other photographers, I will feel more confident.

So I also have this awesome business idea that I am not quite ready to put out there, but I am going to go to coffee with Pam Booher next week to discuss this idea. I really think she is going to help me develop this idea by her questions...she liked the idea so far, so we shall see.
